Which distro to choose?

so many os to choose from i cant make up my mind on what to use

i know most people just go for ubuntu

but i need help

That depends mainly on what programs you use, your computer specs and the desktop environment that suits your taste.
If you're like me, after a lot of distro hopping, testing and a lot of tweaking on every OS I tried, I settled for Linux Mint with the Xfce desktop environment. I grew tired of fiddling and tweaking now so I'm happy with Mint. Just install it and everything works fine (at least on my desktop and laptop). Ubuntu isnt too bad for a beginner, but if you want instant playback on youtube and all your mp3 files I suggest linux mint

Whats your computer specs?

my computer i will run it on is 8gb ram core 2 duo 3.0 ghz nvidia geforce gts graphics card sorry i cant remember the number of the card

You have the specs to run anything you want. Your video card may need drivers.

The latest and greatest Ubuntu 13.04 will be released on April 25.

His video card might need an alternative driver but it should work out of the box since ubuntu will at least provide a open source driver that is loaded by default. To max out performance though you may want to upgrade to the offical nvidia driver

It really depends on what you want to do with it. Ubuntu is a nice place to start. If bandwidth isn't an issue for you, you could download a bunch of live cd's for distro's that look interesting to you and give them a try to see which you prefer?
