Making A Program

I am wondering if you could give me a little info on making a package for Ubuntu. I will give you a list of my questions.
These:

• What Languages to use?
• The process to use
• What programs/IDE's to use?

I would strongly suggest you use python and the GTK API. There is a program called "quickly" that is amazing. Here is a link to a video that will show you the basics. It's rather long though so be ready to sit tight. http://developer.ubuntu.com/get-started/
