Arrow Capturing and Geo Tagging Photos

    Hello,

I am looking for the best way to capture GPS coordinates for photos. It seems a good way is to use a standalone GPS device that tracks your location --> Export those points --> Match the points with the photos. Does anyone do this and have any recommendations for GPS device and software that will work in Ubuntu? It would be great to be able to do jpg and RAW files.

    Thanks!

I think the best way is to actually geotag the photos before they ever reach a computer. And here there are a number of solutions, for canon, nikon, and other brands. But what you describe isn't far behind.

Google's mytracks program is a pretty good smartphone solution for tracking location, and I believe you can get the data out of it in a reasonably manageable format. That would then require pulling the mytracks file and the image files and tagging after you pull to your machine.

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I already have a camera so I am looking for an option to log after the photos are taken. It would seem the best option would be a logger that uses GPX and is driverless so it will work in Ubuntu. If anyone has any experience I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

    Hello pmp6nl,

I am fairly certain the program that best fits the description of what I think you want to do is GPS Correlate, and you can install it from the Ubuntu Software Center.
