    Tutorials Section Re-opening

Staff are currently discussing the situation in this area again.

The possibility being that we will re-open the old tutorial area to more or less the state it was before.

Before I post more - the staff would like to thank all those who've been involved in moving threads to the wiki.

If we do it's possible that the old method of moderating threads prior to them appearing will be gone.

We'd be expecting users to make their own decisions on it's use for them and whether they wished to follow it.

We are also currently looking into a Thanks plugin - this could possibly be used by people to say 'works for me'

This thread is here for you to make your views on this known.

Any posts 'trolling' the previous decision will be removed, please follow the CoC.

Bear in mind that this is still in the early discussion stage and nothing has been set in stone.

EDIT - this won't affect the wiki forum - that will remain for people who prefer to use wiki to write collaborative tutorials

Yay ! Any access to any tutorials is a good thing; particularly for new users in getting acclimated to ubuntu. I should hope that ubuntuforums.org is the gateway to further information.

    just my humble opinion

=D> ... Thank you all for considering this. It would be great to see it open again imo. Cheers.

Interesting, but it's a bit difficult to express views without knowing more detail about the plans for this.
    What's the goal?
What's wrong with the way it currently works?

I would agree - knowing something about the background to this would be helpful.

Presumably the original plan to migrate everything to the wiki hit some snags, or some disadvantages were discovered that weren't thought of originally. It would help to know a bit more about these.

It was closed to new posts for a few reasons, mainly because it had none of the advantages of a wiki. So

A tutorial can only be edited by the original poster (OP) or forum staff. While there were many excellently maintained tutorials, there were many many more that were outdated and possibly downright dangerous because they were old and unmaintained. Looking forward, it would be impossible for the forum staff to maintain every tutorial, let alone have the specialist knowledge to do so.

So moving these tutorials to the wiki would allow others to take these tutorials and keep them up to date.

On the other hand, the tutorials and tips section allowed an ongoing conversation with the OP which can help maintain the quality of the tutorial, questions are asked in the thread, things move forward and the documentation is improved.

So like Elfy said in the first post, we are revisiting the question and would appreciate some input.

Your reply explains why it was changed in the first place. It doesn't explain why you're considering re-opening it again.

Have all the disadvantages of the "old way" gone away / been fixed?

    Thanks.

What changed? Has what was broken previously been fixed?

    ?
Just about everything that was worth migrating to the wiki was in fact, migrated. A large majority of threads in T&T are pretty outdated.
So what about the duplication of effort rationale that was the basis for the original forums-to-wiki move?
