    Google Platypus

Looks like google Gdrive is becoming reality. They are testing it under code name Platypus.

What do you guys think of it? Is it good or is it bad?

One good thing, looks like they are supporting Linux!

It's "bad" to the extent that people utilize it as their primary storage space for important personal data.

I actually like the idea, but as said before, I wouldn't save my personal data on a google/whatever server.

You could always encrpyt it first, but the internet is too slow to make it worthwhile.

It will be good as a backup if you want to host some files youneed to take to school etc. But I would never use it as my main storage.

I have mixed views on this, reminds me of Alien, but then this could be usefull if you can store your personal music collection and play your collection from your gmail account.

Why stop at just back up? They should come up with a thin client that just boots over the net into a Google Environment that will have everything you need

Kind of reminds me of Live vaulte backup systems that I had beta test done about 2 years ago. Where you could keep offsite your personal data encypted on their servers. http://www.livevault.com/ But it was mianly for the windows enviroment purposes and not for other unix like OS's. Which suxs. Oh here is a little treat with John Cleese about it. For a good laugh. I don't know if anone had seen it. If you did sorry about reposting it. http://www.livevault.com/
