    dfpd62; Hi !

Obtaining a driver from ATI is often considered as a "means of last resort", for several reasons as a new user.
Have you tried to install drivers within the ubuntu package management system aka -> Additional Drivers" utility ?

What perchances that you find that you need an alternate driver than what is loaded at this time (if any ?).

    just try'n to help

I have just reinstalled my system. It has a HD5400 and I would really recommend NOT installing the drivers from the ATI website they seam awful. I had really bad performance and bad stability, all my problems were fixed as stated above.

    Re: Radeon driver

On Linux, we don't usually download software from websites and install from there. It is usually the worst way to install software.

Instead, we use a package manager, which is a program that knows where to get software and how to install it. Ubuntu Software Center is our package manager.

If you go to Software Center, then to the Edit menu and come down to Software Sources, you can install the ATI driver from the last tab.

If it ain't broke don't fix it ! (only as a new user)... Additional Drivers utility's location depends on what distro and version you have installed. Please advise.

    my humble opinion
