    Ubuntu 12.04 kernel

I being offered a web cam that only specifies that works with "Linux 2.6" and I infer that means the Linux kernel. I am using Ubuntu 12.04, Would that camera work in my Ubuntu? Which kernel is using Ubuntu 12.04?

With thanks in advance for your advise,

    Tino

    Re: Ubuntu 12.04 kernel

Ubuntu 12.04.2 (which is what you have if you've been installing updates) uses kernel 3.5.0-23.35. It's hard to say if the webcam will still work, but odds are if it had Linux support it still will, at least I believe so.
Is there any way for you to try it before you commit to buying it?

    Ta cortman.

Nop! The offer is from an eBay seller so not chance to try it.

But for the price I would stick to your opinion and I will have a go because if it is supported by Linux some geek in the Forum will tell me how to make it work. In any case I can sell it back.

    Kind regards.

You can check if the model of the WEBCAM is listed Here.

    Ta fantab.

Great!!! I'll keep the link for future information because seems to me pretty up to date. The logitech are also in offer but they are too expensive for my pocket.

The camera in offer is a Creative Live Cam Sync HD720 and there is one in the list pretty close; the same but without the final "HD720", Could be the same?

    What do you think?

    Kind regards.

There is an actual model number (such as VF0750) which you have not mentioned, perhaps because the UK vendors do not include the information in their listings.

I have a cheap Chinese webcam which cost the equivalent of 7 pounds. Since 11.04 it has worked great. (In 10.10 I had to add it to every new version of the kernel.) For Skype, higher resolution means a lot fewer frames per second/minute. In Cheese or Camorama, higher resolution is wonderful. It's a ZC0303....
