    Nice.

I'm gonna go download it. I'll get the 64bit version though.

I tried that. It was Not Good, IME. Mate on Mint 13 was much nicer.

I did the 32-bit version because, when I asked over on the Mint forums, a respondent suggested it was six of one, half-dozen of the other, unless you needed Wine, in which case he recommended the 32-bit version. I need Wine for a particular, MS-Win-only vendor-supplied application , so 32-bit it was.

The trouble with people is that they don't always know what they're talking about.

32-bit Wine works fine on 64-bit Linux.

I thought it might, but it seems to me I've more often seen people complaining of problems with 64-bit environments than 32-bit ones, so I took the easy way out

Im pretty sure 12.04 comes in 32 bit, and cant you just install a desktop onto ubuntu ? i.e. gnome classic ? Maybe its just me but I dont see the difference / hype in mint

Let's keep this away from personal poking/jesting please.

Not everyone wants the same things - luckily there are plenty of choices.

Ahh, Hardy Heron, the first LTS that came out after I adopted Ubuntu. You were good to me.

What you guys are saying about MATE intrigues me but I'm absolutely in love with Xfce, not just for the speed but also how it looks. It will take a lot to ruin that love.
