Will try to help, but my lack of familiarity with your printer may be a hindrance.
1. Firstly, how is the printer connected to your box? Is is directly connected by USB or is it networked? If networked, is it wired or wireless
Sorry i wasn't more clear in the details. My excuse is that i was tired and frustrated. (I am learning--or trying to--immersively; i deliberately did not "fix" my broken Windows box when i brought this Linux computer home so i'm forced to use and learn this "new" operating system. I'm too lazy to do it any other way.
But none of that answers your question. I have it connected directly via USB.
2. Was it these instructions you downloaded? They are located at:
http://cs.psn-web.net/support/fax/co...tu_ENG_003.pdf
I have skimmed through them and they look pretty straightforward (but then, I'm an old Linux hound), so perhaps if you tell us exactly where you find them difficult we can better help to clarify.
Yes, these are the same directions. They may be straightforward, but they seem to me to be in a foreign language. I can decompress the file (i think that's the way that would be said...?) but once i get in there, i am completely lost. (I am spoiled with .exe files that you just double-click and they automatically (in hindsight, magically) install themselves.)
What i mean by "completely lost" is, i can get as far as opening the Terminal application, but do am i then supposed to type “Dash home” -> ”Application” -> “Installed” -> “Terminal” in the menu ? If so, with quotes, or sans? Or am i supposed to type Dash home and then hit Enter before typing Application, etc.? See what i mean about my being a complete and utter Linux neophyte?
3. The drivers are tar.gz which means that they are a compressed archive. This is similar to a Windows ZIP file and is uncompressed in a similar way. Just create a directory on your desktop and move the downloaded driver file into the directory. Then, following the instructions in the PDF, right click on archive and choose "extract". The remaining instructions seem straightforward to me. Just follow them step by step. If anything doesn't work for you, feel free to post back to this thread and someone will likely be able to help.
