I have a bunch of random videos I downloaded from the internet, in various formats which are not too obscure. They use stuff like DivX, XviD, and so on. Unfortunately, some of them do not play back in my thumb drive player.
So I would like to re-encode them to something compatible. Ideally I would like to encode them to something in HD, like 720p or 1080p or something. Maybe H.264 is appropriate here. My thumb drive player plays almost every HD video I download, so this is a good bet.
Command line tools are fine! In fact, I prefer command line if possible.
Oh, and before anyone asks: yes, I do realize that converting to HD does not improve video quality. But some of my videos are already in HD, and so I want to preserve as much of the existing quality as possible. Also, it will be convenient to have everything in the same format.
I would have expected questions like this have already been asked and answered on this forum, but for some reason I can't seem to find anything. But maybe I just didn't look hard enough, so feel free to post a link if you think it applies here.
