Hi,

when I open the terminal and paste

the texeditor opens two tabs. one is "rtl8192se.conf" and the other is "Untitled Document 1 ". Both seem to be empty or at least i cant see anything.

Then open that file again and see if anything is in it. Do not be concerned with the one that says untitled gedit always opens an empty file along with the one you wanted it to open.

first of all thanks for hanging in there with me. second I did as your previous post said and got this content

. However I just looked into the modprobe directory and there are 2 other files with a similar name.

rtl8129.conf
rtl8129se.con

Number 2 contains

I asume this is the one i was looking for ans will remove

That is good!!! If you know the path of the two files I would remove them completely using the sudo rm command, if not it should be okay.

This thread has greatly helped me to finally solve the random disconnect/poor speed issue on my Toshiba laptop, thank you Wildman!

I'm on a 3.11 kernel and the situation hasn't improved since the last time I had to use Wifi heavily 2 years ago, but after adding those options:

and reloading Network Manager and the kernel module, the wifi is flawless, perfectly stable and reaching the same speed it has on Windows

I'll email the maintainer of the module to make him know, there has been dozens of people on forums and mailing lists asking for a solution (a proper one, without having to turn off power saving) without success.

I spoke too fast, it still seems very random. Sometimes it's rock stable and fast and sometimes the old issues are back. After a few tries it works though, and to reload everything without restarting the computer you can use:

killall plasma-desktop ; sudo stop network-manager ; sleep 2; sudo rmmod rtl8192se ; sleep 1; sudo modprobe rtl8192se; sleep 2; sudo start network-manager ; plasma-desktop & disown

(plasma-desktop is KDE-specific, there should be a similar process for the NM applet on Unity and it may not even be needed to restart it)
