GPU hang errors in ubuntu 12.10 on a toshiba satellite (C870-11G)

About a week ago I started to get GPU hang errors after ubuntu reported an internal error. This is pretty much a constant thing now. I have sent all error reports to ubuntu since this started. I have tried various combinations of settings via compiz to no avail. I tried changing to gnome from unity. This also made no decernable difference. I have searched for answers in the forums without any luck.
Please can anyone help?

Does your PC have an Intel graphics chip and a sandy bridge architecture ?

If so, this thread thread as i am currently trying to help another poster with a GPU hang issue (look towards the end of the thread).

Check to see if you are getting the same issues.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite with: 4GB RAM, Intel B960 @ 2.20GHz x2 CPU, Intel Sandybridge x86/MMX/SSE2 GPU, ubuntu 12.10 with gnome 3.6. The above thread contained all the information I needed to fix this problem.
