If I can't move the Unity Launcher without a 3rd party utility

Can I at least hide it?

It's not that I don't like it on the left side, I am on a netbook, and it robs firefox of valuable real estate. Instead of only having to scroll up and down when viewing a web page, I find myself scrolling from left to right on a lot of sites. I can see it not being a problem on larger screens however, ubuntu should think about us "10 screen users as well.

Yeah. Install the CompizConfigSettingsManager . Then start the CCSM, find the Ubuntu Unity Plugin, and then in "Hide Launcher" change "never" to "autohide"

You can hide the launcher in the appearance section of the system settings.

Open the dash and type 'appearance'.

Then go to behavior and turn the auto-hide launcher on.

Set the reveal to where you'd prefer.

And then set the sensitivity to whatever you'd like.

Actually that's one of the primary reasons it's on the left, because websites usually are longer than they are wider.

I have an 11" screen laptop and have no problems with scrolling left and right, are you able to give some example websites?

that's right, websites are longer than they are wider, and no matter how large the screen is, you will find yourself scrolling up and down, like on a 10 inch screen. Point was, that since scrolling up and down is mandatory to navigate virtually all websites, why not put the launch bar horizontally across the bottom?. That extra inch the launch bar takes up on the left makes the difference on whether or not you have to scroll left and right as well as up and down on a lot of websites. I never said I had a problem with scrolling left and right, I just merely asked, why should I have to? That extra inch on the left cuts my scrolling left to right by more than 50%. My problem is solved anyhow. I did not know that you can hide the launch bar.

thanks for all of your help.

What websites are you looking at that require scrolling left and right?
