    Changes in Ubuntu releases decided by the Ubuntu Technical Board

    The Ubuntu Technical Board announce their decision to change support for non-LTS releases from 18 to 9 months, and the adoption of a mechanism to allow users to continuously track the development focus without explicitly upgrading from release to release.

    Ubuntu Membership Board call for nominations

    Elizabeth Krumbach, on behalf of the Community Council, makes a call out for restaffing the Membership Board, which is responsible for voting new Ubuntu members. The Membership Board is in need of 9 Ubuntu Members with a good community track record and enough time available for meetings once a month. Nominations will be accepted through Friday April 5th at 12:00 UTC for ubuntu-membership-boards at lists.ubuntu.com

    Canonical and Chinese standards body announce Ubuntu collaboration

    The CSIP (China Software and Integrated Chip Promotions Centre), National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) and Canonical join forces to create Ubuntu Kylin, a China-focused Ubuntu desktop system. This announcement represents the first step into the government's five year plan to promote open source software and accelerate the growth of the open source ecosystem within the country.

    Community Testing of Ubuntu systems

    Randall Ross shares news from the LoCo in the Czech Republic, which has been approached by a PC manufacturer to test Ubuntu. Tadeas Parik writes: "we are able to test all their products with Ubuntu - they have many computers to be sold without OS and we can test them" ...     Ubuntu Touch summary (week 11)

    Daniel Holbach gives an overview of the latest work done on Ubuntu Touch, including applications, bug fixes and new ports. Among these are updates to the media, gallery and telephony apps, a new library for media signals, and updates to the Platform API. He also mentions a new port for Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and that porting work has started for HTC Sensation XL, SGS III (Qualcomm AT&T) and Toshiba AC100.

    Thorsten Leemhuis from H-Online tests Dell's XPS 13 Developer Edition and writes about minor shortcomings found while testing the platform, but reports that continued tests show "Ubuntu ultimately running very nicely on the XPS 13."

    Ubuntu 13.04 Adds Legal Notice to System Settings

    Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! shares a screenshot from the newly introduced legal notice in the Ubuntu system settings. Sneddon also adds "The new legal notice joins a recent change to the text shown in the Unity Dash search box, which informs users that it text entered is matched against online as well as local content."
