Canon MP620 working in latest Ubuntu?

    Hi,

Thinking about turning to Ubuntu completely - only thing holding me back, is the horrible printer support (by printer manufactors that is). My current printer should be supported (well working at least) in Ubuntu 11 according to this thread. However that was some time ago, and what I can read from that thread, is that it probably won't be working in the current version.

So: Has anyone the Canon MP620 working in current Ubuntu? And bonus question: If I wanted to get a new multi-functional (scan/print) network printer, which to buy? Are there a printer hardware compatibility list somewhere? I only managed to find some old lists to follow...

    Thanks.

Bump - I need to decide if a new computer built this weekend must be with W8 or Ubuntu 12. Printer is the only thing, that I don't know, if I can get to work...

Re: Canon MP620 working in latest Ubuntu?

so when canon produced this printer 5 years ago the linux market was early days so no linux drivers I can see........if you google it is very similar to I think the MP520 or something so folks just tweaked the ppd file to say MP620 ..........

..... you can buy an MG2120 series for about $US40 in many markets.........I think cumulatively the ink will cost much more over the years................ and we may find printer drivers obsolete as things like google offer different ways http://www.google.co.nz/cloudprint/learn/printers.html

I would take a punt that all HP, Brother and Canon devices sold now have linux drivers......eg check Canon from here............ http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/?personal

Thanks all, I'll give it a go today with MP620, following the link from ahallubuntu. If it doesn't work, I'll get a new printer where I have checked the driver section first.
