compiz crashed

i have noticed that when i close or shut down the box i get error messages that say that compiz or kwin crashes. i ahve done the following with rthe hiope that it will cure the crash.
gksu gedit /etc/default/apport
chaned the 1 to a 0 and save.
if this fails what else can be done to cure the crashes?
