Hard Drive Missing after installing Ubuntu 12.10

Hey Guys,

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my PC. When I used Live Boot, everything was working fine but after the installation 2 hard drives were missing(I have a total of 3.) I decided to snoop around a bit.
When I used the 'sudo fdisk -lu', this is the result I got:

What are the result of

The disk listing should be toward the end.

or just

If the drive does not show up in fdisk, it not a mounting issue.
How were the drive partitioned before the install?

You might also try gparted to get a better view...

Were they hardrives or partitions - I've lost count of threads where we're told hdd and it's partitions ...

I'd not be booting from anything but a livecd/usb until I was sure I'd not overwritten partitions during install.

Though if the data is that important I'd guess there are backups.

I am pretty sure they were hard drives, they would show up in Windows as Local Disk (C

, (D

and (E

The reason i installed Ubuntu was that I hated Windows, Ubuntu is working without any problems except the hard drive one. I had the 'Waiting for apt-get to exit' problem but it fixed itself after I used 'sudo apt-get upgrade'

Okay, I tried Gparted but here's what happened, it seems that Ubuntu has merged all my Hard Disks into one big Hard Disk. Does that mean I'll lose my Data?

Just because windows shows c:, d:, e: does not mean that they are separate hard drives. They can just be partitions as well.

Stop using the installed system, run from a livecd. All the time you use your ubuntu you are reducing the chances of recovery.

You might manage to recover data, the old partition information with Testdisk

When you've booted the livecd then try searching here for recovery threads - there are plenty of them.
