Alternate File Manager Suggestions

So... Nautilus in Ringtail has the lefthand tree removed. I'm not going to whine or carry on, it's not going to change anything. Straight to the point:

What alternate file managers could people suggest to try. I liked Nautilus so something similar would be good. My only requirement is that it has the tree on the left like Nautilus had up until very recently.

I've tried all the Ubuntu flavors (and for that matter nearly every other Debian-based distro) and I still prefer normal Ubuntu the best.

I remember Dolphin from Kubuntu & Debian-KDE and it was pretty good but PCManFM seems to integrate more cleanly with the rest of the Ubuntu UI and seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Win.

thunar, the latest version of thunar is quite nice.

Thunar is pretty good (and very quick at loading directories with large numbers of files, something that Nautilus sucks at). The only main niggle for me is that location and rename entry is a pop-up box rather than directly entered in the location bar or file display area.

If you like Nautilus 3.4 then you could check out Nemo. It's the Mint fork for Cinnamon (so it may pull in some Cinnamon deps) but it works the same.

You will probably have to look for alternatives that offer desktop management too if you would still like to use icons on the desktop and to have desktop icons that work OK with file manager. Or you could leave Nautilus/Files installed and use Thunar for example yes. Try a few of them and then decide but it's hard to use GNOME and not to use Nautilus/Files because integration/features are important in the end and it's a shame the trend currently is to remove some features form Nautilus/Files users like to use.

I'm ok with Nautilus the way it is, especially since it is still getting improvements/changes. However I do like Krusader, with its many features it is actually a step above the Norton Commander of old that started the idea of a split screen file manager.

At least they put the expanding folder trees back now.
