unable to print with hp printer

i have gotten an error message saying i need to install a plugin. when i try to update that it says i need to update my firmware. when i try to do that i get an error message that i need to update teh plugin. i already went to the synaptic package manager and downloaded eveything with hp on it. i have downloaded the hplip status manager. i am sure i have all the plugins i need but i get an error message about the firmware when i enter hp - plugin into the terminal.

What is the MODEL of your HP printer?

The driver installed by synaptic is old.

Best to download the newest from HP. The driver seems to cover many HP printers & distributions.
