Question Faerie Solitaire thru Steam is fine, Civ V isn't

Installed Wine 1.4.1 on my 12.10 64-bit. I have installed the ia-32 files as well. I can bring Steam up, and start and run Faerie Solitaire just fine. So I suspect my base setup is ok. It did the initial download for my Civ V, but when I select the "Play" button it says it is completing the installation, gets to 1%, then says it needs to install a Steam service. Clicking to install causes Steam to crash.

I do have the G&K as well as Gold DLC.

Would moving to Wine 1.5 help, or am I basically just SOL?

Why are you running Stem in Wine? Steam has it's own linux client now! Haven't you heard?!?

Not only that it's flawless! Currently over 100 linux games exist for download and play!

Civ V doesn't appear to be one of the Linux games supported. Unless I missed something in that link?

That said, is there a 4xgame in that list you can recommend?

The link is to the WineHQ page for Civ V and steam -- Silver rating is very poor for gaming:

So you're suggesting converting the machine back to Windows then?

No, I'm telling you that some games don't work well under Wine and Steam -- as the ratings show.

Linux is not a free VERSION of Windows; instead, it's a free ALTERNATIVE to windows -- meaning, trying to still run Windows games and apps in Linux, in general, is going to have disappointing results.

The need to still run Windows stuff is what keeps many of us retaining our dual-boot setups.

Really (!) don't want to reboot. The VirtualBox options sounds interesting - is there a good tutorial for that?

Also, am open to trying the Linux native client if someone can recommend a similar game?

Don't do gaming but from what I've read, a VM is NOT the way to do Gaming -- you won't get the performance you want and you won't have the hardware accelerated video, either.
