Hi I've just installed Ubuntu 12.10 in an old netbook but I cannot get the microphone to work. I tried changing to different settings using pavucontrol and alsamixer but it didn't help. The computer had Windows 7 before and I'm quite sure the microphone was working. I'm quite a novice for this kind of problem so I'm not even sure what kind of information to post.
