Smile How to change an extension and file type of an actual file.

I could easily do this inside of windows.

eg. I want to send an *.dll file with a different extension to send over yahoo.

When trying via dolphin properties of the file, it only changed the name and not the file type
I used *.doc and it wouldn't work.

    Any ideas?

Unlike your Windows OS, file extension "associations" mean nothing to the Linux OS, although they might mean something to individual software packages. Just use an archiver, such as xarchiver, and zip it up and send it.

Sorry, it's actually a *.rar file with an executable inside, I changed the extension from *.rar to *.doc, but somehow it remains a rar.

Now I tried changing it from *.rar to *.jpeg, this time however it changes the icon, where changing it to *.doc did not.

will send again and see what happens.

Re: How to change an extension and file type of an actual file.

I can send via yahoo, but a virus is alway detected (where a virus does not exist) and the end user cannot download my file.
So it's not a file type problem, it's a yahoo problem, I can not send any compressed (rar or zip) *.dll or *.exe.

Any ideas on sending the file?

maybe try making it password protected? If they unpack the uprotected archives automatically to scan contents, password should prevent that. Or maybe try to compress it twice.

Yes, that's a great idea Vaphell, but the ARK application via the desktop does not offer password protection.

I have now solved my problem using "mega.co.nz" as the solution, very easy and simple to upload the file, and the end user was able to easily download the file.

Thank you very much for your time and brain I will mark this as solved. Thank you.

I cannot mark the thread as solved via the "Thread Tools" menu

++++++++++" if you get a satisfactory answer to your problem, mark the thread as [SOLVED] in Thread Tools menu. Thanks "++++++++

*I'm pretty sure I was able to in the past?

Presently there is only "Print", "Email" and "Subscribe", but the 'Solved' option does not exist.

yep, it got bugzored during the transition to newer forum software or something and i didn't change my signature.
I think currently it's done by changing the thread name by hand.

Lol, the thread name cannot be changed by me, only by an administrator if I email him. I will see what happens next.
