xubuntu 12.04 mouse will not work

got xubuntu 12.04 runing only mouse will not work, i think it crashed, had orange (!) on top. playing with comands opened a many apps, music, buddy, book1 and terminal:
administrator@ubuntu:~
typed reboot, got
need to be root
anyone knows how to get the mouse working, i got that i could do it from aplications+settings+mouse settings but no luck
i had no OS for a month, but im glad im getting somewhere. help?

how about
sudo reboot
and providing your password? that will reboot your system.

the link takes me back to my previous post. i tried reboot on terminal, need to be root it replied.
should i try sudo reboot?

Older fujitsu lifebook P2110 160gig 512 ram
fresh instal of xubuntu 12.04 will make the pointer and buttons (no trackpad on this mode) not work, usb mouse works after installing all updates. Wireless card is not working either. Mouse settings shows both pointer and wireles mouse are found and set to be active. Any help is welcome
