    Unhappy Toshiba Satellite L750-1GN brightness problem

    Hello. I'm new on this forum, but i looked here sometimes. I have the only one problem. I can't adjust my brightness with Fn+F6/F7. I tried everything. I'm running xubuntu 12.10, my kernel is 3.5.0-25. I have fnfx-client , fnfxd , acpi , acpitool installed.

    /etc/default/grub:
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Code:
    # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
    # nvidia-xconfig:  version 310.40  (buildmeister@swio-display-x86-rhel47-07)  Sun Mar  3 21:49:58 PST 2013

    I will be REALLY happy, if someone can help me because my eyes hurt. Thank you so much

    I'm running 13.04 Pre-Release on my C660-15R and all the function keys work right out of the box, maybe try without fnfx-client , fnfxd , acpi , acpitool installed and see if that fixes it.

    MadLuke, there is something wrong with the ACPI driver or it's missing outright. While looking for a solution, perhaps you can enter the boot menu (you may have to hold down <Shift> during boot) and adjust the brightness before continuing to boot.
    At the boot menu stage, there is no ACPI driver involved at all and your BIOS should hopefully be able to dim the display.
    You may want to check for BIOS revision updates as well, it might just be that your current revision has a buggy DSDT ACPI table.

    Another suggestion: try the acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\" kernel parameter instead of "acpi_osi=Linxu acpi_backlight=vendor".

    The line in /etc/default should look like this:
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\""
    And make sure to run:
    Code:
    sudo update-grub

    Re: Toshiba Satellite L750-1GN brightness problem

    Hello. With acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\" my touchpad is so slow, scrolling does not work and brightness still not working. I tried uninstalling fnfx-client , fnfxd , acpi , acpitool but nothing changed. Manually rewriting backlight in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness did not work. And i can't change brightness while i'm in grub, i can do it only in when i am running Windows. I'm trying now xubuntu 13.04 beta 2 but still nothing changed. The last possibly way is to update bios but i'm scared of it.

    How about using nvidiabl?

    According to its nvidiabl-laptops.h file:
    NVIDIABL_DECLARE_LAPTOP_MODEL("TOSHIBA", "SATELLITE L750", PCI_ANY_ID, NVIDIABL_SC_AUTO, NVIDIABL_AUTO, NVIDIABL_AUTO, NVIDIABL_AUTO),
    ...it looks like the L750 is supported.
