which distro?

i have a older ibm thinkpad t40 that right now has windows xp on it and im looking for a linux distro to put on it.
has anyone put linux on a t40 thinkpad before?

I had one. It ran the XFCE desktop OK. If you can, scrounge some RAM and max it out.

Should not be too much of a problem as long as you have enough RAM on it, specs look ok and it takes up to 2gig:

I would not try Unity on this though. I have a similar spec Dell that runs Slackware 14.0 with Fluxbox and it runs very nicely.

You have a Pentium M without PAE, so only the 12.04-releases will work out of the box, not 12.10.

As Xubuntu 12.04 is supported two years from now it's probably the best choice.

im looking to get more ram for it real soon.
ill put 12.04 on a thumb drive and put that on it. thats what im running on my Fujitsu tablet pc

I have a T43p that I'm preparing to upgrade from Jaunty to Linux Mint 14 MATE 32-bit. The 4:3 aspect ratio doesn't work well with Unity.
