I had one. It ran the XFCE desktop OK. If you can, scrounge some RAM and max it out.
Should not be too much of a problem as long as you have enough RAM on it, specs look ok and it takes up to 2gig:

I would not try Unity on this though. I have a similar spec Dell that runs Slackware 14.0 with Fluxbox and it runs very nicely.

You have a Pentium M without PAE, so only the 12.04-releases will work out of the box, not 12.10.
As Xubuntu 12.04 is supported two years from now it's probably the best choice.

have you tried puppy linux? i have it on my notebook and it runs like a bullet .
I have a T43p that I'm preparing to upgrade from Jaunty to Linux Mint 14 MATE 32-bit. The 4:3 aspect ratio doesn't work well with Unity.
