What do you think of this unresponsive keyboard/mouse issue?

Would running lsmod or lspci -vvv help?

I know lspci -k shows kernel drivers handling each device and kernel modules
capable of handling it 2.6 or newer.

Could it be that firmware is needed?

Change the batteries and see what happens ...

Just kidding. Have you recently done a major update/upgrade? If not, it does sound like hardware. Did the mouse and keyboard come as a set? Are they USB? If so, perhaps the dongle is screwed ...

Thanks for the replies, but right now I decided to use Windows as my main OS and to run Ubuntu via VMWare.

It's working flawlessly right now, so apparently I'll just settle for this since running Ubuntu as my main OS is causing problems.

I wasn't sure if our member was using the touchpad on his laptop or if he has a wireless mouse-

If it doesn't challenge you; it doesn't change you-

    Good luck!

Has anyone had success using Lenovo x230's trackpoint with Ubuntu 12.04LTS? I've checked against BIOS and it's enabled but when i use xinput I don't see the trackpoint detected.

... and you are hijacking it so good idea. Please refrain from hijacking threads (for so many reasons). Post a new one with a descriptive title, there's plenty of room here and you'll increase your chances of help.

if you go back to ubuntu, try to set auto login, that way everything is loaded

my taugth of this that your keyboard and touchpad is new, maybe bad hardware support in ubuntu even 13.04
    Linux: Debian 7 xfce

For the record, you are not alone. My Toshiba Satellite-C870D, running 64-bit ubuntu 12.04 with an AMD Radeon HD 7340 Graphics diver has had an identical problem for the last year, except closer to 25% failure of the onboard keyboard/trackpad AND about 25% failure of the onboard display. I try not to turn it off because it often takes many tries to get it fully restarted! External mouse and external display are fine - need an external keyboard? That would make it a desktop machine! Updates have not helped. A recommended Graphics driver change was a disaster producing unbearable flicker without fixing the problem.

    Re: Keyboard/mouse problems with Ubuntu

I had problems in the past with an older IBM laptop I had. I had to install a different touchpad driver from the default - can't remember if it was Alps or what is was. I seem to remember this helping the keyboard as well. Since it works in Windows, and it works in Linux in a VM in Windows, it would indicate that Windows has the drivers for accessing the device(s) correctly. Remember that a VM uses virtualize devices while the host is still using native drivers. For your VM, look in the VM settings and see if it lists a mouse and/or touchpad and what type it thinks it is.
