LOCALES not installed

Hi to all,
unexpectedly, the language setting for my system have been changed to English while previously it was Italian.

Actually, it has been a couple of days that I'm required to run

dpkg-reconfigure localepurge

and select the correct locale languages. At the moment, it and it_IT have been selected, as suggested by the command instructions but still I cannot change my system language to Italian.
In detail, when trying to set Italian language through the System Setting I get the following error:

You have the language with code 'it' in your list of languages to use for translation but the localization files for it could not be found. The language has been removed from your configuration. If you want to add it again please install the localization files for it and add the language again.

So what should I do?

sudo apt-get --reinstall install language-pack-it
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

However, it seems it did not work. I just get the same errors.
This is what I get when selecting Italian language (at the moment, no language is selected) from the Country/Region Language:

While again I get the same error as in the previously attached picture as for the System Languages ("Lingue di Sistema" in the screenshot) section.

However, isn't a strange thing that the sections in the screenshot are reported part in English and part in Italian language?!?!

Sorry, there was a typo in the first command I suggested. Can you please re-run them again? Also, when doing dpkg-reconfigure locales ensure that locale for Italian (it_IT.UTF-8) is selected (press Space to set * in the box) and gets regenerated.

I realized of that error and I had already run the right command, but I had the same error as I wrote above.

However, I run those commands once more, selected what you asked (actually at the moment: en, it, it_IT, it_IT.UTF-8 are selected) but the problem persists.

What can I do?

Maybe it can help, as far as I can remember some problems may have occurred when more or less 10 days ago I run the following commands to clean my system:

The only thing there that has something to do with locales is localepurge. The following will show if locales and localepurge are properly confured.

Results of dpkg-reconfigure locales can be seen with

grep '^[^#]' /etc/locale.gen

Note that if you accidentally removed the Italian locale with localepurge then the only way to regain it back is the full re-installation of all packages that contain Italian localization. This could be achieved with

sudo sh /usr/share/doc/localepurge/reinstall_debs.sh
