Hi,
Is there a way to use the old Gnome? I'm not enjoying this OSx like environment with the side panel and all windows closing from the task bar. This is super annoying. I want my old Ubuntu desktop back
Thanks

You have two options
You can install gnome-session-fallback which will give you a Gnome 2 interface, but without applet support.
Or you can install Linux Mint 14 Mate Edition which is Gnome 2, but maintained with current libraries.
Thread moved to General Help.
A third alternative might be to install another desktop environment such as Cinnamon http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/. I find it quite user friendly and a more traditional menu driven approach rather than Dash in Unity
There are other Desktop Env that are also quite good (I have tried XFCE)

Hi, what do you mean without applet support? Do you mean software upgrade?
I suggested Cinnamon DE not KDE, but perhaps it isn't for you

The Mate desktop is a Gnome 2 fork, but is native to Mint and both Cinnamon and Mate can be installed on Ubuntu. Gnome 2 reached end of life and isn't supported. XFCE is a very nice looking desktop with some effort ( post 103). http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...121094&page=11

m@ya, what I meant by that was you can not add your own applets and only comes with the basic applets needed for proper usefulness of the desktop. So applets like Eyes or Weather are not present.
