Once a year since 2009 I have loaded UBuntu or one of the many variances!! I'm really unsure.

And on each occasion I have un installed it after a few hours.. Days or weeks.

When I tried to download it this year I don't even see how to do that without a university degree.. so.. .

I opened the link and clicked the download arrow.. then I see .. Have I got windows 8! but no other option( I still use 7) How can it be so difficult??

    OK abuse me...

Angry Re: Still as confusing as ever or?

Well after some time I managed to download Ubuntu, and for the last four hours I have been trying to find my music on an attached hardrive or my c drive: failed.
then tried to install adobe flash so I could use Iplayer: failed.
Then tried to download and install Chrome: failed.
Tried to find my pics: failed.

and quite a few other things.. just about all failed.
I did manage to get Gmail, Yahoo and facebook.

what complicated unhelpful software.. I now don't see how to remove! arghhhh: What a shame. I would love to have move from Microsoft. my poor little brain/or my nerves won't stand another attempt. good luck

    for flash:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

    For Chrome:
There is a link to the deb installer on the google search page. Just pick 32 or 64 for your computer.

Pics? If you were using Shotwell, you have evey right to be mad. Shotwell sucks. Install Gthumb instead. Sudo apt-get install gthumb
If it's an Iphone issue, too bad. Iphone's have encriptions that require Itunes to veiw their content. There is no Itunes for Linux.

Doesn't look like the OP wants any help. More like he's trying to persuade himself that Linux is hard to learn and use. :)

    ---

Dear OP, you may believe what you want to believe. However, as a matter of fact, Linux installation was as straightforward as Windows installation even back in 1998. As for additional software installation - in Ubuntu you got Software Center. A full-blown GUI application with search. Search for something, click on a package in the search results, click "Install". Yeah, that's it.

Re: Still as confusing as ever or?

To be absolutely honest, I agree to a certain extent. I tried installing on OS X back on 11.10, and I ended up having to resort to a Windows Vista machine (Hey, Vista wasn't too bad to me.) to get a working USB installation. On OS X I really had no understanding of the command line. So, unlike installing a new version of OS X, you don't have a nice GUI (at least on OS X), but with pretty basic computer knowledge it's not that hard. Nowadays I've (almost) memorized every step and command to get a working installation on my MacBook.

You did say you've been at this since 2009, meaning 4 years, and you're on Windows. Recently I've noticed a lot of programs popping up that make it really simple to make Live CD's/USB installations. It can't be that hard, in fact, it isn't. Don't train yourself to give up so easily. Good luck.

Try installing Windows on a new machine without any previous operating system. Not easy.

And you end up with Windows.
