Firefox: opening imgur link from reddit into new tab leads to black screen

The black screen is in the source tab. If you step away from the application or visit another tab then it rights itself. It does not seem to happen if other tabs are open or you just click through to the selected image.

Only a few links do this and the ones that do, do it fairly consistently.

I've turned off hardware acceleration, but the effect is still happening. It seems to have only started when Firefox 19 was introduced.

Playing with the gfx settings under about:config so far has not worked. Tried gfx.prefer-mesa-llvmpipe;true and gfx.xrender.enabled;false. There may be a combo that works. Needless to say, layers.acceleration.disabled;true is applied.
