How may I stop getting reminded of Kernel update by Update manager

Ther Kernel update I refer to here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2121422 breaks my Ubuntu 10.04.
Please how may I stop getting reminded of Kernel update by Update manager?

I guess you are running Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. This nagging problem will stop next month, at the end of life of that version. Then you will receive no more security updates. So I would consider the nagging to be a minor problem compared to your problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I have migrated (upgraded) from 10.04 to 12.04 and I am satisfied with 12.04, although there were problems in the beginning. 12.04 LTS is gradually more bug-free and polished so have another try, if it was months ago that you tried it last time. I suggest that you try the current sub-version Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS or if it is demands too much of your computer, try the corresponding Xubuntu version.

Try the flavours of 12.04.2 live before deciding to install them. It is also much easier to make a fresh installation, and install the software you need, when you need it. This way you will avoid lots of problems with old and maybe incompatible software and settings. You can also keep your /home directory. Make it a /home partition for the new installation!

Thanks sudodus. I suspected that the nagging would stop an end of life in April.

I'd previously installed 12.04 from an old iso I downloaded in April 2012 and at was slow and a bit buggy for me.

I did try 12.04 Unity again on Friday by doing the Update Manager upgrade to 12.04.2 LTS. Ugh!! my mistake as I took ages to upgrade and then when running only allowed a 4:3 desktop layout and not 16:9 or 16:10 suitable for my notebook monitor.
So I will download the latest 12.04.02 iso, install from that and try again because I do like the concept of Unity and the planned direction of Ubuntu.

For some time I've had a separate partition for /home and use Acronis True Image home 11 to backup and restore the operating system root partition / . That takes a mere 6 minutes.

I've tried Xubuntu and that has potential for me.

Currently I have Linux Mint 13 to test on my 8yo Toshiba laptop and it is looking promising.

I've now installed 12.04.02 Unity on my 8yo Toshiba Equium M40X notebook.

It is running well.

I think there have been significant performance improvements and probably some needed bug fixes since first release in April 2012.

So it is time to replace 10.04 with 12.04.02 on this my msi cr620 notebook.

I'm glad it works well on your first computer, and I hope it will work well on the netbook too. Maybe there it will be better to use a light-weight desktop environment, for example Xubuntu

I had a bit of fun and games getting Oracle Virtualbox to run and pick up the guest XP system from /home partition copied from my main msi laptop and also had to install Skype. Hmm! I'll also have to look at how I get TrueCrypt onto the old Toshiba to pick up and decrypt my hidden encrypted "disk".

I will eventually need to have something other than Ubuntu 10.04 running on my ASUS Eee PC 1001P netbook. (I only use it when on holiday away from the UK).
It was a struggle some years ago to get wifi and Skype sound working on the ASUS netbook as shown in this thread . So I'm nervous about changing its operating system.

(I hadn't put that 8yo Toshiba Equium I use as a test bed laptop in my signature.)

I installed Lubuntu 12.04 in an eeePC for a friend. It worked quite well. I think the present versions of Ubuntu can cooperate quite well with eeePCs, but there is not really enough horsepower for Unity, so Lubuntu or Xubuntu are good choices.
