    Re: CPU kernel issues?

That is the error you get when you try to boot a 64bit iso. on a 32bit processor.
Which the Pentium 4 is, so you will need to get the 32bit iso image to work with that machine.
25 bucks WOW! You know that you can download for free and burn to a cd/dvd or you can get it "burned" to a usb drive.

Which Pentium 4 chip is it exactly?

Some of the older Intel chips don't have the PAE feature which is needed to install Ubuntu from the CD you have.

    Re: CPU kernel issues?

    1. most pentium 4 are 32 bit.
    2. The 64 bit image failed to boot. So I think it's safe to say it's 32 bit.

Thanks, the CD boots but stalls the moment the violet image loads showing the 2 icons on the bottom. Than I get the message displayed that your CPU needs some kernels.......

    Re: CPU kernel issues?

If you can download an iso file reasonably easily, I suggest that you download the lubuntu 12.04 alternate iso file and make a CD or USB boot drive. The computer should boot from that, and Lubuntu can be installed. Then we can help you with commands to evaluate the system and find out if it is suitable or if another version or flavour of Ubuntu would be better.

Maybe the computer has horsepower enough to run a desktop environment with more eye-candy, but Lubuntu alternate is a good way to get started.
