Question Problem with a Lite-on Optical Drive

    Hello,

I'm using 10.4 Lucid, long term support and will soon change to 12.4 long term support.

Last night,I used K3B(on a 32 bit machine) to burn an image of the 12.4 amd 64 long term support onto a DVD. It burned the image and checked everything, resulting in a perfect copy. I made an image of the 64 because I want to put it on a different computer.

This morning, the Lite-on player will not recognize disks. Nothing is displayed on the gnome desk top.

I restated and tried again,no luck.

I powered down, opened up the case and reconnected everything,no luck.

The system IS recognizing my sound card. I can play fm radio just fine.

When I press the button on the Lite-on player, the green pilot light comes on,the tray opens, accepts the disk, and then closes when I press the button. It does nothing but about ten seconds later, the green pilot light goes off.

I get the same result with recorded CD-R,blank CD-R,recorded DVD-R and blank DVD-R disks.

    What should I try next?

    Thank you.

Search the internet for your drive model number. You are probably not the first. There was a batch of Sony laser diodes that oxidized or otherwise corroded and became non-functional. Sony battery recalls, Sony camera sensor recalls. See a trend here?
