    so i have a install of ubuntu server with startx ubuntu desktop gui. I was trying out new software like, wamp, xammp and other software. and the few i didnt like it i moved the start icon to the trash. i accidentally deleted them all. then i found one i liked. ampps. i wanted to access its web panel. to cut to the chase another server was already running on port 80. how do i find what app is running on port 80 and remove it????

    netstat maybe?

    Code:
    sudo netstat -nlp | grep ':80'
    tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:80              0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN      18054/apache2

    The easiest way to know wich process is running in a certain port is running the followin command

    sudo netstat -tulpn

    In your case, just execute

    Code:
     sudo netstat -tulpn | grep 80 (This will filter the result by showing only port 80 )
    In my case shows this

    Code:
     tcp6       0      0 :::80                   :::*                    LISTEN      1411/apache2
    Thats means apache is using that port (also the numbers before slash is process ID )

    Based in your results no process is using port 80. So you should not get any messages like "another process is using port 80"
    Are you sure ammps is installed and running ?
