    Screen flickering

I have a dual boot windows 7 & Ubuntu. Ubuntu was reccommended to me as I have been under a pretty severe cyber attack in windows. However, the video linked below will display what I experienced this afternoon in Ubuntu 12.04. What you will see is what happened when I placed my mouse on the left side icons for Firefox and Word Doc. This looks like a virus to me. I even unplugged my wireless mouse to see if it might be the cause of the problem but the event continued on anyway. What do you think and what's the best way to get rid of it? Thanks!

I guess no one on this board has been cyber attacked by the government yet.

    A private video doesn't help -

I am sure you will find that you don't have a problem.

Likewise couldn't view the video here, for the same reason. If you're comfortable with the idea, an "unlisted" setting on YouTube instead of "private" might be more suitable for clips you share via the forum.

My apologies. I thought that posting the link would allow you to view it. I will make it public.

Ouch! Very distracting! (The video clip is now viewable.)

My thought is that it could be related to your keyboard in some fashion. I've caught myself out in the past with things resting on the keyboard, not to mention spilled coffee and assorted bits of smoking-related muck getting in where it shouldn't.

Moved to General Help as this is not related to security.

...I have, they replaced my screensaver with an hypnotic mind control spiral.

    Re: Screen flickering

Seriously, Stinkeye, it's been real pain in the ****. I publicly oppose NDAA 2012 Sections 1021 and 1022. I've had my social media and email accounts which support my campaign all hacked. I recently had a new hard drive installed on my computer. Two weeks later, I discovered that my machine and network each had a trojan and there were an additional 15 ip addresses which had accessed my system. Two days later, I made a phone call to one of my peers who is a part of my team. During the call, the signal became digitized and screeching all over the place. When the noise stopped, all I heard was someone breathing hard, loud and heavy on the other end of the line. The following Sunday I decided to encrypt my hard drive. I made three recovery discs. Two days later, my system would not boot, not even from any of the recovery discs. I did a fresh install of W7. 24 hours later, my screen was going nuts, not unlike what can be seen in the video I posted. I sat back and let go of my mouse and watched my cursor dance around my screen with windows opening and closing. That's when I starting looking into Ubuntu as it was reccommended to me as being more secure than Windows 7. But I have my doubts. Certainly, if anyone can hack Ubuntu it would be the feds.
