    Quake 2

    Hi there,
I've installed quake2 and quake2-data from the repos and let him copy the data and download the newest patch.
It's working just fine, but I have a few questions:

    1. It's an "improved version of id Software's Quake II engine". What does that mean? Is it compiled from the original source code or some port? If yes, which one? How is it improved? I can't seem to find any information about it.
1.1 Which port would you recommend?

    2. Does it work online? When I start it, he's telling me something about security issues. Can, or can I not play over the internet? Is this "improved" version compatible with vanilla Q2?

    3. quake2 +set game ctf won't start the game in CTF mode. How do I do that?

    4. How do I set up rouge and xatrix?

Look at this page -> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Games/Native/Quake2

I have tried using the new compiled quake2 ports from the repositories, but this shows how to setup quake 2 using the original id binaries.

I'm not interested in compiling vanilla Q2
    R1Q2, AprQ2, EGL, Quake2maX, Quake II Evolved,
which one do I have? (repos)
Which one is the most popular?
