Grey/glitchy screen after updating?

This issue has plagued me for months. Every time I install Ubuntu and apply regular updates, when I boot back into Ubuntu, I'll see a purple screen, then it'll show the login screen, but all I'll see is an orange/grey screen, though I can hear the boot noise. What could be wrong? :/

and then the session open normally, or you still get graphic issue ?
