Keyboard key repeat problem on thinkpad X61

Running ubuntu 11.10 on Lenovo Thinkpad X61.

All of a sudden I have a problem with keyboard repeat. Suppose I press one key, the letter gets printed. If I hold the key down, multiple letters come out. The problem occurs when I press the same key multiple times within 1 second or so, then only the first key stroke is recorded.

Before I open my laptop to look for broken connections, I would like to rule out OS issues. Any keyboard drivers to reinstall, or anything else you guys can think of?

    Thanks

Do you have "Sticky" or "Slow" keys enabled in the Accessibility options?

Nope, no sticky or slow keys enabled.

Well, then I'm not sure what the problem is.
I'd test out a liveCD of some other distro before I'd open up the computer, though.
