    Many of the conversations in this thread, aren't taking into account the fact that Adobe has stopped releasing new versions of flash for Linux, and instead is partnering with Google to implement Pepper, see this blog post:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2...-on-linux.html

    I know Mozilla is working on their own implementation, but I have found a link yet.

    This is from adobe forums.

    If you are using Windows 8, Flash Player is now embedded into the operating system for Internet Explorer so there is no need to manually install. Updates will automatically be made available through the built in Windows Update system.

    every single video is available as mp4.

    I don't use flash for security reasons.

    If you use internet explorer 10 in windows7 without flash you will notice all videos play flawlessly

    in ubuntu with firefox or chromium you will notice some videos will complain about not being able to play without flash

    e.g.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXIcQaNiy0g

    now observe how easily we can make it play without flash:

    it has nothing to do with flash but everything to do with ads and youtube partners and monetization and google shenanigans

    in your channel settings turn off ads and monetization etc etc and your channel will be 100% html5:

    I haven't used flash in over a year now and everything in my youtube works fine

    also in case you didn't know

    https://www.youtube.com/tv#/browse
    This was by far the most helpful explanation I could find, thanks

    Could you explain what you mean by & how to change channel settings?

    yes Zen, cool nick btw :

    log in into your channel and click on the little arrow on the side of your picture (upper right)

    -> go to 'Video Manager'

    -> go to 'Channel Settings'

    disable 'monetisation'

    disable 'show ads'

    your channel should be completely html5 compatible now. Mine plays all videos without flash http://www.youtube.com/nomenkultur

    edit: btw everyone in this thread forgot to mention that you should go to software center and install gstreamer plugins and search and install h264 codecs
