    raring runs youtube without flash-plugin

Looks like raring is grabbing a default flash player from somewhere. When trying to run a video , youtube correctly tells me that flash-pligin is not installed ... but proceeds to play flawlessly
    This is Rolling Release

When you don't have flash installed, youtube plays with HTML5 player.

Re: raring runs youtube without flash-plugin

all youtube videos are playable in html5

every single video is available as mp4.

I don't use flash for security reasons.

If you use internet explorer 10 in windows7 without flash you will notice all videos play flawlessly

in ubuntu with firefox or chromium you will notice some videos will complain about not being able to play without flash

    e.g.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXIcQaNiy0g

now observe how easily we can make it play without flash:

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/xXIcQaNiy0g

it has nothing to do with flash but everything to do with ads and youtube partners and monetization and google shenanigans

in your channel settings turn off ads and monetization etc etc and your channel will be 100% html5:

I haven't used flash in over a year now and everything in my youtube works fine

also in case you didn't know

Just yesterday I encountered a video that is unavailable in html5 and had to exit html5-trial just to watch it... Unfortunately that video is today removed by author due to some controversial content (long story, musician, drug, alcohol, police...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKdbY_g87Q4 ...
That is why I wrote that not all are available... Several weeks ago I had similar situation but I ignored it since content of video was not interesting that much to me...
I might be missing something but...
Update₁: I might be paying penalty for being the member of HTL5 testing (not so secret ) society...
Once I've left that group it seems that it really works. It hesitates a second and then it goes...
    I'll investigate more... Thank You...

With downside ie. size of the player increases which is not desirable always...

@nomenkultur, I never knew about the "embed" tricks before. Just edit the url bar and I can watch the video without flash plugins. Yeah...

Yeah .. thats it basically. And no offset *blue* like during other testing with flash-plugin. I just started the thread because I was surprised that it worked. I always had to install flash-plugin to get anything to work on youtube.. so perhaps this is one of the surprises?? and... great .. if it has been around for a while I certainly haven't noticed it.

Re: raring runs youtube without flash-plugin

I run internet video on ABC, BBC, CBS, CNN, Washington Post, Huffington Post, LA Times, Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, ABC Australia, Picasa, some You Tube, Pretoria News, on and on. As part of setup on my installs - every week or so on one or another of my 3 test pc's - I automatically do flashplugin-installer. I've got 2 Android tablets. One runs most of the videos the other just some videos. Guess which one I use the most.

From time to time I run Linux Mint 14 which runs all these videos "out of the box". Nice.

Whatever Linux or Browser doesn't do all the videos, I won't use. Linux is supposed to be customizable, so I don't look for development to put any road blocks in the way.
