Touchpad on Acer Netbook not supported anymore

Everytime I use ubuntu now.. for some reason the touchpad gets choppy (as in it would stop working for half a second and start again). Sometimes I would move my finger from one side to the other, and the cursor would move off in some random direction. Sometimes I would move my finger up-and-down away from the edge (as I have edge scrolling enabled), and it would still scroll up-and-down. I don't if it's a hardware (physical) issue or if its just a driver issue (which is most likely). On Windows XP the touchpad seems to be working fine. Is there any way someone could please check if Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has full support for Acer Aspire One D255 touchpad? Is the gsynaptics driver up-to-date? If not, where could I download and install the latest one? Thanks

Oh and btw.. Is there any other distros that wouldn't have this problem? I remember one of the distros that I used a few weeks ago and support for two finger scrolling (which meant it supported it better).
