Why is LibreOffice the Beta 2 version?

Why is LibreOffice the Beta 2 version of Release 4, when the final stable release is out already? Just curious...

There will quite soon be 4.0.1 rc1 in RR repo.

I think it's because LibreOffice release numbering is a bit weird. I think LibreOffice 4.0 RC2 was the same as the final 4.0 release.

No, it is not that weird. Every software has some sort of development cycle, starting from development and ending with stable release. Usually, latest release candidate (RC) is released as stable version, maybe with changed version number.

Numbering of development versions differs. LibreOffice had released beta releases for 4.0.0 as "4.0.0 beta2" for example, followed by "4.0.0 RCx" and then RC3 actually became stable 4.0.0

Ubuntu Raring has outdated beta2 version in repository.

You're right. We've gotten the final RC before but that's not what happened here. I don't know if that was a mistake or what.

Anyway, I'm thinking we'll get 4.0.2 by the time Raring is released anyway: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/4.0

I think it’s Björn’s intent to upload the final version of LibreOffice 4.0 to Raring. For the record, there were some build issues with the first upload, and that’s why it was delayed a few days. Of course, he should know better.
