i do know you can disable secure boot so linux to boot, i think canonical has one of those MS keys though so it may not be needed

There are many threads on the topic of installing Ubuntu on a machine with Windows 8 in other sections of the forum. In those threads you will find links that forum members have found on this issue. Ubuntu 12.10 and now 12.04.2 both have signed kernels that should get past the secure boot requirement as does 13.04. It all depends on the application of the specification by the OEM. Other than that installing 13.04 should be exacly the same as installing 12.04.2 or 12.10. Provided you can get the Live Session to run.

    Regards.

The reason why I was asking is that someone else on Dell's Website Forums tried to install Ubuntu and Bricked his Hard Drive. Dell uses UEFI 3.0 which does NOT allow you to Turn OFF Secure Boot if I understand his problem correctly.

I do not think there is a UEFI 3 yet. And many Dell system have installed with dual boot. Some systems primarily Samsungs do have an issue with a defective UEFI and bricking. It now turns out even Windows will brick those Samsungs.

You will need to use the 64 bit version of 12.10 or 12.04.2 and from the UEFI menu boot the flash drive in UEFI mode. That way it will install in UEFI mode.
Systems need quick boot or fast boot turned off in UEFI settings. Vital for some systems. Best to backup efi partition and Windows partition first.
Use Windows Disk Tools to shrink Windows main partition, but not to create any new partitions, if installing on same drive.

As of 12.04.2, it is possible to install on UEFI systems with Secure Boot enabled (using signed versions of Shim, GRUB, and the Linux kernel). This is only currently set up for Ubuntu (desktop, alternate, and server) and Edubuntu images due to pressures of time; we expect to enable it across the entire Ubuntu family for 12.04.3. Details:

Re: 13.04 (and) uefi (new dell pc)!

It's actually a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 Windows 8 X64 Edition PC with an Intel Core I3 2nd Generation Processor, 4 GB's of DDR3 SDRAM, and 500 GB HDD. He said he tried to install 12.04 LTS but it very well may not have been 12.04.2 that he downloaded. I plan on keeping my Dell Inspiron 1012 Mini Net Book and plan to use 13.04 on there instead. Thanks anyways.

You also may want to update your Signature as I no longer see a way to mark this as Solved, at least not on my Apple IPhone 5 which is what I am using to type all this in right now.

Because of the update to vb4, the Solved plugin no longer works, as a work-a-round, you can edit your first post, in the Advanced Editor, above the edit box you should see a prefix drop-down, you can change the thread prefix to solved there. We will be installing a new Solved plugin, but we have to submit it to Canonical IS for security checks first.

Yeah well I am currently using the What You See Is What You Get Editor so that will NOT work at all.

The advanced editor does both WYSIWYG and shows you bbcode with the click of a button. The screenshot showing just chromium is WYSIWYG mode, and the shot showing my background is code mode.
