    Perhaps you tweaked the appearance through a user style sheet (userContent.css), a GreaseMonkey script, or by editing the profile like described in this thread?

    Yes! I had indeed done that. I removed the file, and that solved it. Thank you for your insight.

    EDIT: But it makes the posts much taller, so I suppose I'll have to revert to having the profiles at the top.

    Cool Re: Welcome to the upgraded forum!

    Why don't you guys just upgrade the entire forum to a later version of vBulletin, such as vBulletin 4 or 5?

    @Paddy Landay
    I'm currently browsing the forum with profiles on top, signatures and avatars switched off, and with this custom CSS:
    Code:
    .posthead {padding:1px 0!important}
    .nodecontrols {padding:1px 6px 0!important}
    .userinfo_noavatar {padding:2px 0!important}
    .rank {height:30px!important}
    .imlinks {display:none!important}
    .userstats {width:290px!important}
    .userstats dd {margin-bottom:3px!important}
    .userstats dt {
      width:6em!important;
      margin-left:2px!important;
      padding-left:2px!important;
      text-align:left;
      border-left:thin none;
      float:right!important;
    }
    .posttitle {padding:2px!important}
    .postbit .postrow {padding:3px 6px 1em!important}
    li.postbit {margin-bottom:12px!important}
    .postcontrols {width:75%!important}
    But I guess this is somewhat extreme.
