    Re: Phone scam

So is that what that phone call was all about? I got 6 missed calls from that phone number just last week and I thought it was someone I know. But there was no voice mail left so I decided to look up the phone number to find out who's behind the calls.

I also pulled up http://www.callercenter.com/253-802-0308.html where several complaints are posted against the caller. Apparently, this scammer has been calling a lot of people and it's a great wonder why he's not yet behind bars.

I read about one time when the scammers were found (in India). They just shut up shop before any action could be taken against them, and I presume that they started elsewhere.

It actually might be interesting to get this call and it might be educational on what would happen.

I would boot up Windows that I have in VirtualBox and do what they ask to see what the end result would be.

Also to possibly see where there IP is originating from.

One poster suggested reverse-hacking. I wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to do that, but wouldn't it be great if you could let the scammer in to your (virtual) Windows machine — and at the same time hack a bunch of viruses into his computer!

That depends on whether you mean "people who play with computers" or "people who steal other people's data or act in other malicious ways".

    Re: Phone scam

I'm sure the fine folks at 419eater would be willing to take this scammer for a whirl if you could convince him to call one of their "baiter" phone numbers.
