    Hello

What you mean by "browser". Is that the web one or the file manager?
Also, that'd would be nice to know what have you updated in your system.
Can you show us last records of your apt.log?

Had try this in the past and did work but not now : sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

    Currently trying this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/20622...-12-10-drivers

This did not work as well

OK. I can see you're trying to install a new kernel. Well, don't do it because we need extra info to understand if your problem is related to it or not (I have doubts it is)
I need to see what packages you've installed to your system to understand what may have gone wrong, so, when you have the chance to work again on your laptop shell, type in the following command and paste here the output (use the wrap function)

    sudo tail -n 30 /var/log/dpkg.log

Try to boot and hold the shift button to get to the grub menu, then choose the line with a different kernel.

    Re: Updates broke unity

I've just had the same problem. Things were working fine until I applied today's kernel update. After the restart the Unity launcher panel and window decorations had disappeared.

As suggested above, I installed the latest linux headers (in this case linux-headers-3.5.0-24-generic).

After another restart Unity was working normally again.
