Question USB 2 PCI Card Compatibility

I have an old HP Presario SR1410NX running Xubuntu 12.04.2 LTS that has only USB 1 ports. I would like to install a PCI (no Express slots) USB 2 card but I don't know if the OS will recognize it or if there are linux drivers written for them. Are PCI cards usually PnP with linux? Is one brand generally more compatible than others? Is there a good resource for drivers?

    Thank you in advance.

There are no "drivers" for things like this, that is Windows thinking. The Linux kernel natively supports most things including PCI USB chipsets.

Thank you I'm primarily a Mac user with little x86 experience, when I think x86 I think that every little thing needs a driver. It's good to know that linux is essentially driver free as OS X is.
