    No Hard Wire Internet Connection

Hello - I'm a TOTAL n00b to Ubuntu. I just installed 12.10 (first time) on an old notebook, and I have not internet connectivity at all. Wired or wireless. I have poked around this forum and found out a few things.

    1. It looks like there is no controller for the ethernet interface which is a Realtek RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+

    2. I have the 12.10 disk, but don't what driver to look for or how to get it to a place where I can load it. It is on DVD

    3. I have no driver for the wireless Broadcom BCM4318, and I see b43-fwcutter on the disc, but I am unsure how to install or proceed with that. any guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks

As you are using 12.10 you can go to System Settings>Software Sources>Additional Drivers tab and see if that utility will install these drivers for you.

    Regards.

The b43-fwcutter is not install and when I double click it on the disc it opens, but the install button is greyed out. So b43-fwcutter is not installed.
