Headphone volume not linked to master volume?

On Quantal, the master volume in alsa doesn't affect my headphone volume. I can adjust the headphone volume itself without issue, but it'd be nice if it could be linked to my keyboard's volume control (which works fine with the master volume).

Dell Optiplex GX620, integrated sound card (Intel ICH7, Analogue Devices AD1981B chipset). Ubuntu 12.10 w/ xfce4.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks all.

EDIT: It appears that I'm not the only one having this issue, there are quite a few forum posts about it but absolutely no solution. Gahhh

Please wait 24 hours for a bump. Thanks.

EDIT: I would try xfce's volume daemon. That's what I use to control volume on my headphones since my receiver/stereo has its own volume knob.
