My system freezes whenever I try to exit "maximised" VLC. That is, if VLC is maximised(not fullscreen) and I try to make it go back to a small window, the whole system freezes, and i'm forced to hard reboot.

I can still move the mouse around, there are no blinking lights on keyboard, but i cant really do anything else than move the mouse around.

I run gnome3 desktop environment on my pc, should it matter.

any ideas on cause and/or solution to this problem?
